FULL MOON POETS AND 101 ARTISTS' COLONY
SANDCASTLE - MOONLIGHT BEACH COVE FESTIVAL
I joined the 101 Artists' Colony in 1998 and have had so many interesting years working with local artists of all types who have enhanced the Downtown Encinitas Main Street. I started Full Moon Poets in 1999 with simple open readings in a read-around style. That led to the La Paloma Full Moon Poetry Slams. In 1999 the 101 Artists' Colony started the Arts Alive Exhibit along the Coast Highway 101 from Leucadia through Encinitas to Cardiff by-the-Sea. The unveilings and auctions have become a town favorite. Twenty years ago I became a member of the Encinitas Rotary Club. This group of dedicated people do so much for our community and beyond. It is hard to keep up with them.
I worked as a zookeeper in the '70's mostly in the reptile department. Displaying animals to the public in a natural environment was always important. In the '80's I started a construction company welding and hammering steel. When Norma and I moved from Texas to Encinitas in 1994 I combined the zoo experience with welding and created art that contains life. Terrariums and Vivariums; Biosculptures. A few corporate customers wanted large steel animal sculptures. I am grateful to them for sending me in a different direction and enjoy making both types of sculptures, many of which I donate to charity auctions. It has been an exciting 30 years for us and we are so glad we ended up here.
